Demonstrations/ Have-a-Go Sessions
We are self sufficient display, but do need a minimum of 2 hours to set-up the lathe and stall. We have Public Liability Insurance and risk assessments in place and assess each member of the public individually for "have a go" sessions on a one-to-one basis.
We can charge for these short "have a go" sessions on your behalf (any money taken will go back to you to off set our fee) or your customers can "have a go" for free at your discretion.
For the demonstrations, I show the range of tool types and their use to create simple items. The range of topics covered can include everything from the initial timber selection, set up of the pole lathe and use, through to the final turned item.
Note that the turning will be on a modernised treadle lathe (shown above) using bungee cord instead of a pole. This saves space and allows us to work indoors or on concreted surfaces where a pole would not be possible.
I can also demonstrate traditional bowl turning technique using hook tools done on a "Viking" lathe. However this will not be suitable for public "have-a-go" sessions but for demonstration purposes only.
Costs...
