Hello, my name is Simon Vowell and I am a traditional pole lathe turner, specialising in turning “spindle” products. Using a historical replica wooden pole lathe, I can not only turn modern items, but can reproduce historical replica items for all re-enactors.
I am based at Snelsmore Common Country Park near Newbury, Berkshire. This is a S.S.S.I. (Site of Special Scientific Interest) managed by West Berkshire Council. I am available at Snelsmore Common for direct sales on a Wednesday, Thursday and Saturdays regularly unless otherwise committed to events.
I offer hand turned items and one to one Basic Pole Lathe "Taster" Course in green woodturning based in West Berkshire. I am also available for demonstrations (i.e. private functions / School visits / Education centres / Re-enactment etc) within a reasonable distance of Thatcham, West Berkshire to include the Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire area's.
Please contact me for further info.
Subscribe to our new Facebook page for new products and up to date news (as working at the common is weather dependent) and comments from past students.
